Mayors, local leaders, businesses and the community must come together to transform our economy and strengthen our community’s resilience in response to the changing climate.
As part of the Sydney Climate Action Summit co-hosted by the City of Sydney and global climate action network C40 Cities, Local Action in a Hostile Climate will bring together mayors and city leaders from Australia and our region to Sydney Town Hall.
This public event will feature panels of mayors, industry and civil society leaders taking climate action, presenting world-leading case studies from local governments that have made significant strides in transitioning their local communities to a renewable future.
Local communities are on the frontline of the impacts of climate change and economic transition, and they are calling on all levels of government to work with them to ensure a prosperous and fair future. Local governments are stepping up, working with their residents and businesses to take action.
This event is an important opportunity to share information about practical actions to increase resilience against future disasters, reduce emissions and work together to ensure a just transition to a low-carbon economy.
About C40 Cities
The City of Sydney is a founding member of C40 Cities, a global network connecting 94 world cities taking bold climate action. C40 Cities share with each other the lessons we have learned, so that we can accelerate emissions reductions around the world. The work we do has a significant impact, because cities are responsible for more than 70 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions. C40 Cities collectively represent more than 700 million citizens worldwide, and a quarter of the global economy.
